Freelance Work

Here are some logos I recently did for a couple clients. The Business Lab logo is for a program that puts special education children back into regular classrooms and helps them with self advocacy. The other logo was for a canadian cottage owner who rents out rooms, and wanted a website header and business cards. I'm fairly pleased with both logos and am very glad to have had the opportunity to do them.

Vis Com II Revisions

Here is another round of revisions on the Red Barn poster, Jazz Poster, and some new Stress article layouts. I'm pretty happy with the Red Barn poster and am pleased with how it turned out. I like where the Jazz poster is headed although I feel it could be stronger. I'm satisfied with the first layout of the stress poster as well (all though I'm not so fond of the blue layout.)

Pretty innovative interactive musical keypad design.

Amazing Photographic Technique!

The creative studio dentsu, teamed up with photographer linden gledhill to create this series of paint sculptures using
sound vibrations. the series was part of a campaign for canon’s pixma ink printer brand. the photographs and videos
begin by wrapping a membrane around a small speaker. ink drops were placed on this membrane and the speaker
was turned on. once it began to vibrate the ink begins to jump up and down. high-speed video cameras and still
cameras were used to capture this including circling around the sculptures to see them from all angles. experimenting
with different sounds and frequencies created the various pieces. - via designboom.com

"How to Sell a Banksy" Official Movie Trailer

Banksy’s work has reportedly been traded for millions. But he puts up his street art for free. Going up against the art establishments, critics, auction houses, gallery owners and authentication boards in a quest for the elusive meal ticket, two filmmakers unwittingly gatecrash the murky and protective world of Banksy. How to Sell a Banksy raises questions of ownership, authentication and the true value of art itself. Through all the chaos and incompetence comes a modern-day true story.

Vis Comm II Class Work

Here is the latest installment of work from class. A poster for the 36th annual Red Barn Arts & Crafts Festival, a newsletter layout for a group converting highway 63 to four lanes, MAE posters, and a Jazz Combo Poster. I'm not to happy with the MAE posters so I will probably re-work those in the future. Sometimes you just design to get something submitted, and then revise later. We wont be graded until we submit a portfolio anyways so If I have better pieces I might just leave 'em. Blah blah blah. Here are the jpegs.

Goudy .gif Retask

Here is the second animated .gif that I spoke of in an earlier post. I'm satisfied with it overall.  It was easy to do the second time around. It's still a frustrating process however and is very limiting in the animation options available to you. I still prefer flash, and even more so after effects.

Up and Coming Vis Comm works

My next two assignments in class are to re-task the 2nd poster design I did into an animated .gif and then to a separate design of a 4 page, duplex printed newsletter. It will be printed on 11x17 paper, no bleed, grayscale, and is intended to be mainly informational. The content is about the 2006 proposal for a 4 lane highway from Kirksville to Macon. Some challenges I am anticipating are varying the heirarchy, scale, and use of black and white enough to make an interesting piece without falling into traditional pitfalls. I'm hoping a grid, limited font use, and experimentation with the subject matter will aid me in getting to a successful solution.

Visual Communications 2 Font Selections

Today in class we were told that we were to choose five fonts that we would take with us on a desert island, and only 5. They had to be non display, standard fonts. These are to now become the fonts that we are to use exclusively till further notice. My font choices are displayed below, and were selected due to their universal application, manipulative ease.
